Superb all-rounder performance by Swagatiaka Rath enabled high-flying Odisha hammer Tripura by 61 runs in a league match of the East Zone Senior Women’s T20 Cricket Tournament at Jamshedpur today. The thumping win, their second in two days, fetched Odisha four points, while Tripura drew blank.
The spirited Odisha women, who had beaten Pakistan in a World Cup warm-up match last month at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, compiled a strong total of 148 for three after electing to bat. In reply, Tripura were restricted to 87 for five in the stipulated overs.
All-rounder Swagatika Rath first shone with the bat, hitting a dashing half-century (50 off 30b, 4x4, 2x6) and followed it, claiming two wickets for 11 runs with her off-break bowling. Among other notable Odisha performers, former India opener Madhuri Mehera hit a 45-ball 39 with the help of six boundaries, while wicket-keeper Kadambini Mahakud remined unbeaten on 27.
